Pinch pot from local ceramicist and designer Akiko Tsuji.
In order to achieve the presence of weight, black clay which turns almost bronze after firing was used. A light coat of sapphire glaze turns deep blue green and a hint of metallic was applied on the interior to contrast the roughness of the body. The piece was hand built and kept purposefully unpolished leaving the markings of fingers and tools.
This tea bowl was inspired by the Japanese Azuchi-Momoyama period, which embodies a wabi-sabi aesthetic principle in shape and appearance.
