Modern, unglazed teapot by Nankei Ceramics in Yokkaichi, Japan. The clay will absorb tea oils over time, developing a slightly shiny patina. Made with shidei clay, which is high in iron and yields a sweeter brew than non-iron teapots. The iron reacts with the high temperatures during firing, resulting in its blackened appearance.
