Small, hand-built teacup from Los Angeles-based artist Chie Fujii. Drawing inspiration from her background in fine art and sculpture work, Chie seeks to elevate the principles of wabi sabi in a modern, attractive, and lighthearted way. This "drawing" cup features hand-etched lines alongside a wabi-style glaze on the cup's lip. The lines and drawings—unique to each cup—reflect her time learning English as a second language when she first moved to Los Angeles. The abstract mixture of Japanese and English words on her cups capture the feeling of being in a new place, limited by one's language. She particularly includes positive thoughts in her drawings, such as words of beauty, morning, and joy.
Porcelain. Hand-built and fired in Los Angeles.
Measures 3"Øx2.5"H. Comfortably holds 125ml (4oz). Please note that each cup is handmade and may vary slightly in size and shape.
