A matcha tea bowl (chawan) that is made in the hallmark style of Asahiyaki: neutral local, clay that is said to enhance the taste of tea and a warm-colored glaze that has light colored spots affectionately known as "deer marks." Asahiyaki's hanshi clay has been excavated from Shirakawa and Oriiyama in Uji for over 50 years. This chawan is technically perfect in every way: medium sized with a gentle slope for easy whisking, lightweight, and uniquely hand-crafted.
Each piece is hand-thrown, with lines made with artists' fingers intentionally left to give the pottery a warm, handmade feeling. Please note the unique variations in the glaze around the bowl.
Before using it for the first time, soak it in water for 10 minutes to minimize staining.
