Only 1 available.

A matcha tea bowl (chawan) that is made in the hallmark style of Asahiyaki: neutral local, clay that is said to enhance the taste of tea and light colored spots on the glaze that are affectionately known as "deer marks." Asahiyaki's benikase clay has been excavated from Shirakawa and Oriiyama in Uji for over 50 years. It is slightly large for a tea bowl—closer to a cereal bowl— that is surprisingly light in the hand.

Each piece is hand-thrown, with lines made with artists' fingers intentionally left to give the pottery a warm, handmade feeling. Please note the unique variations in the glaze around the bowl.

Before using it for the first time, soak it in water for 10 minutes to minimize staining.

4.72"D x 2.83"H.
Materials: Local benikase clay, transparent glaze. Gas-fired.
Comes in a protective, wooden box.
