A matcha tea bowl (chawan) glazed with an olive green colored crackle glaze. Matsubai refers to its glaze (tr. "pine ash glaze"), which is created by burning red pine firewood in the studio's climbing kiln and converting it to ash. The ash mixed to create a glaze that becomes vividly brown-green when fired.  Designed as an everyday tea bowl, it is well-proportioned, feels balanced in the hand, and has a gentle sloped shape that makes for easy whisking with a chasen (matcha whisk).

Each piece is hand-thrown, with lines made with artists' fingers intentionally left to give the pottery a warm, handmade feeling. Please note the unique variations in the glaze around the bowl.

Before using it for the first time, soak it in water for 10 minutes to minimize staining.

4.8"D x 2.55"H.
Materials: Local clay, pine ash glaze. Fired in a climbing kiln known as genyo.
