Tekuno is a San Francisco-based company that works directly with farms and producers to showcase the quiet, expansive breadth of Japanese teas.
Our gyokuro hails from tea producer Hoshinoseichaen in Yame, Fukuoka, Japan—a region in southern Japan that is less well known outside of Japan but, within the country, renowned for its gyokuro and matcha. As with matcha, gyokuro has a grading system and a 1:1 correlation between quality and price. For our gyokuro collection, we select the pinnacle of what our producer offers and are careful to only add to our collection when we find novel flavor profiles of the same quality.
Our gyokuro will be rich with umami and thick in texture, have a long finish with no bitterness or astringency, and brews easily at a variety of temperatures.
